Don Beyer, serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, provided comments via social media on a range of issues including environmental concerns and a recent tragic incident at a high school. Beyer, age 72, resides in Alexandria and graduated from Williams College in 1972.

On April 22, Beyer commented on the financial burden of climate change, stating “These actions also carry a heavy economic cost.” He noted that extreme weather events attributed to climate change amounted to over $180 billion in expenses in 2024, further impacting homeowners’ insurance rates nationwide.

In another post dated April 22, Beyer responded to comments made by President Trump and other Republicans, saying “President Trump and Republicans have said that caring about our planet is part of so-called ‘culture wars.'” Beyer stressed the distinction he sees in the debate, emphasizing a commitment to environmental protection for future generations.

On April 24, Beyer addressed a different issue, indicating his ongoing attention to a violent incident in a local educational institution. He stated, “I continue to monitor the response to the tragic stabbing at West Potomac High School yesterday.” Beyer communicated his interaction with FCPS Superintendent Reid on measures to safeguard the school community’s safety.

Don Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District for multiple terms and has been actively engaged in both advocating for environmental concerns and addressing local issues that directly affect his constituency.
