Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently took to social media to address concerns regarding proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In his series of posts, Beyer highlighted the potential impacts of these legislative changes on vulnerable populations.

On July 3, 2025, Beyer stated that “5 million people will lose critical nutrition assistance that enables them to put food on the table due to this bill’s devastating cuts to SNAP, according to CBPP.” He emphasized that those most affected would include children, parents, veterans, and people with disabilities.

In a subsequent post made on the same day, Beyer noted that “These SNAP cuts, the largest in history, will likely raise food costs for all 42 million people on SNAP, according to CBPP.”

Furthermore, Beyer addressed health care implications in another post on July 3. He referenced an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation indicating that “many millions more Americans will see higher health care premiums” as a result of these policy changes.

Don Beyer has been actively involved in political discourse since he replaced Jim Moran in Congress. Born in Trieste and educated at Williams College with a BA degree obtained in 1972, he resides in Alexandria.
