Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, recently shared his thoughts on a significant judicial decision via social media. His posts focused on Judge Joun’s ruling concerning actions taken by former President Trump and DOGE against the Department of Education.

On May 22, 2025, Rep. Beyer commented on the ruling: “Judge Joun’s decision blocking Trump and DOGE’s illegal efforts to gut the Department of Education and mandating the reinstatement of wrongfully terminated staff brings much-needed relief for millions of students, educators, and families across the country.” This decision mandates the reinstatement of employees who were allegedly wrongfully terminated.

In a subsequent post on the same day, Beyer elaborated on the impact of these actions: “Their abuse targeted attorneys, student aid workers, and civil rights office staff. It left millions of students and teachers without services they need, including the enforcement of anti-discrimination laws and support for students with disabilities.” He highlighted how these terminations affected essential services provided by the Department.

Further addressing this issue in another tweet posted simultaneously, Beyer stated: “The RIFs and eliminations of entire offices inhibited the Department from carrying out its statutory obligations. I am grateful that more than 1,300 wrongfully terminated employees must be reinstated to fulfill these statutorily mandated functions.” This underscores his support for restoring the department’s ability to perform its duties effectively.

Don Beyer has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950, he resides in Alexandria and holds a BA from Williams College.
