Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, issued a series of statements on July 24, 2025, expressing concerns about President Trump’s recent actions regarding artificial intelligence policy.

Shortly after, Beyer elaborated on the group’s position: “We are deeply concerned about the impacts of President Trump’s AI Action Plan and the executive orders announced yesterday.

He specifically criticized one of the executive orders: “The Executive Order ‘Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government’ and policies on ‘AI neutrality’ are counterproductive to responsible AI development and use, and potentially dangerous.

We support true AI neutrality—AI models trained on facts and science—but the” (July 24, 2025).

Beyer was joined in these statements by several Democratic colleagues including Doris Matsui, Suzanne Bonamici, Valerie Foushee, Hank Johnson, Sarah McBride, Jim McGovern, and Rob Menendez.

Beyer has served as Virginia’s representative for nearly a decade after succeeding Jim Moran in Congress. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria at age 72, he holds a BA from Williams College. His continued involvement with technology policy reflects ongoing debates over federal approaches to artificial intelligence regulation.
