Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has taken to social media to express his concerns over recent political and economic actions. Beyer, who succeeded Jim Moran in this role, has been vocal about issues affecting both his constituents and international relations.
On July 10, 2025, Beyer criticized Governor Youngkin for defending mass firings in Virginia. He also mentioned that Lt. Gov. Sears mocked those who lost their jobs. According to Beyer, “This is what happens when Trump slams Virginia’s economy and our leaders who should stand up to him cheer him on instead.”
Later that day, Beyer addressed former President Trump’s trade policies towards Brazil. He noted that Trump was attempting to impose a substantial tariff on Brazilian imports due to an alleged “unfair trade relationship,” despite the U.S. having a trade surplus with Brazil. Beyer commented on this situation by stating “Trump will raise Americans’ prices for coffee and juice to punish Brazil for importing American goods.”
In another post made shortly after, Beyer discussed the reasoning behind Trump’s proposed tariffs on Brazil, which he attributed partly to legal proceedings against a former Brazilian president involved in an attempted coup following an election loss. He remarked that it was “Not hard to understand why Trump would come to his defense!”
Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria at the age of 72. He graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
