Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently expressed his concerns through a series of tweets regarding various political and economic issues.

On June 3, 2025, Beyer highlighted a critical issue involving children worldwide. He stated that “Children around the world are dying because Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Marco Rubio illegally froze programs that distribute lifesaving aid (and saved us money).” He accused Marco Rubio of dishonesty in this matter and mentioned journalist Nick Kristof as having documented evidence through pictures and stories. The full tweet can be viewed here.

Later on the same day, at 16:48 UTC, Beyer criticized the Trump administration for its impact on public health infrastructure. He remarked that “[H]ealth departments responsible for invisible but critical work such are being hollowed out by President Donald Trump’s administration.” According to him, this depletion results in Americans losing essential personnel and programs aimed at maintaining public health.

Continuing his critique of current policies at 17:21 UTC on June 3rd, Beyer discussed the economic implications of Trump’s trade policies. He asserted that “Trump’s trade war drives up housing construction costs — then Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill raises borrowing costs for home-buyers.” Furthermore, he noted that these trade wars have also increased expenses for small businesses while Republican legislation has simultaneously made loans more costly.

Born in Trieste in 1950 and residing in Alexandria, Don Beyer holds a BA from Williams College obtained in 1972.
