Dr. Charles R. Drew social worker Carol “CJ” Burka has been recognized as a National Certified School Social Worker. The certification is an advanced credential that requires candidates to hold a master’s degree, have at least four years of post-graduate experience in school social work, and demonstrate mastery across nine professional competencies based on the National School Social Work Practice Model.
CJ Burka is the first social worker in Arlington Public Schools (APS) to achieve this national certification. She is also the 13th individual in Virginia and the 51st nationwide to earn this distinction since its introduction in 2021. CJ Burka is an Arlington native and graduated from Washington-Liberty High School.
“This certification highlights CJ’s professional excellence and commitment to supporting students, families, and schools,” according to the announcement.
