The City of Alexandria will hold a Student Work Showcase and Community Meeting #6 for the Duke Street Land Use Plan on May 28 at Patrick Henry. The event will begin with the Student Work Showcase from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., followed by the community meeting from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.
According to the announcement, students from several classes at Alexandria City High School will present projects developed during the planning process. Food and refreshments will be provided, and community members are encouraged to attend and engage with students about their work. The regularly scheduled community meeting will include a presentation focusing on housing and health elements of the upcoming draft plan, followed by a question-and-answer session. Both portions of the evening are also accessible online via Zoom.
Language interpretation in Spanish, Amharic, Dari, and Pashto will be available throughout both segments of the event. Details for accessing the virtual meeting include a registration link through Zoom, as well as webinar ID and dial-in information.
The city has extended its Engagement Hub through Friday, June 26. A digital version of the Framework Plan is available online with opportunities for public comment. Residents interested in hosting a presentation about the plan can contact Christian Brandt, Urban Planner, whose contact details are provided in the announcement.
Alexandria operates as an independent city providing services within defined boundaries under a council-manager government system, where City Council selects a manager for operations; it incorporates racial and social equity into policies to foster fair outcomes; maintains museums interpreting local history including African American heritage; and partners with agencies on archaeological research, according to the official website.
