Rep. Don Beyer, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th District since 2015, shared his perspectives on various issues via social media on July 9, 2025.

In a tweet posted at 17:04 UTC, Beyer questioned the fulfillment of former President Trump’s promises regarding trade deals. He stated that Trump had promised “20 deals,’ ’50 deals,’ ’70 deals,’ ’90 deals in 90 days,’ and even ‘200 deals.’ What happened to all those deals?

Later that day, at 17:40 UTC, Beyer expressed his views on Pete Hegseth’s performance in his professional role. He remarked that “Pete Hegseth plumbs new lows of incompetence and failure every day. This guy should never have gotten this job, and should have been fired months ago.”

At 18:24 UTC, Beyer addressed the public health issue concerning the spread of measles in the United States. He attributed this to anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and criticized the Trump Administration for its handling of public health leadership by stating that “Measles is spreading in the United States at the fastest rate in 30 years because of anti-vax conspiracy theories.” He further added that instead of safeguarding American children, “the Trump Administration is putting these kooks and loons in charge of our public health infrastructure, making it worse.”

Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He graduated from Williams College with a BA degree in 1972.
