On April 14, 2025, Rep. Beyer addressed claims regarding a mistaken deportation, stating: “He didn’t murder or rape anyone, you’re lying. The Trump Administration admitted in court he was deported to a foreign prison by mistake. If the law and court orders don’t count, the Administration can do this to everyone. And Trump just said he wants to do it to US citizens.” Beyer highlighted the potential implications of disregarding legal standards by the administration.
Later the same day, he mentioned further legal actions and proposed community-level reforms. He tweeted, “There will likely be more litigation on this, but no matter how that ends, it is very clear that the Trump Administration and Elon Musk have egregiously abused probationary employment procedures in the federal government. I will introduce legislation soon to reform this process.” This announcement indicates Beyer’s intent to address and potentially rectify issues related to federal employment procedures.
On April 15, 2025, Beyer commented on the labeling of an individual as a terrorist, noting procedural discrepancies. He stated, “Vance and Trump labeled Kilmar Abrego Garcia a ‘terrorist’ with no evidence and disappeared him to a foreign prison. He wasn’t convicted of a crime. Now Trump and Vance are violating a Supreme Court order. That’s not due process.” He raised concerns about due process and the prospect of such actions being taken against American citizens.
Don Beyer has served in the U.S. Congress, representing Virginia’s 8th District, since 2015 and succeeded U.S. Congress member Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950, Beyer resides in Alexandria and holds a degree from Williams College.
