Loudoun County Clerk of the Circuit Court Gary M. Clemens has announced a new remote access service aimed at occasional users seeking deed information and land records. The initiative expands on an existing subscription-based service that has been in place since 2003 for professionals such as attorneys, title companies, real estate agents, and surveyors.
“This service has efficiently and effectively served our regular clients, such as attorneys, title companies, real estate agents, surveyors and other professionals who constantly conduct land records research,” Clemens said. The annual subscription model allows these clients to access public information remotely without visiting the courthouse. Clemens noted, “We are doing our part to reduce traffic congestion because we have more than 1,000 clients conducting research of deeds and land records daily from their desktops.”
For occasional users who do not require or want to pay for an annual subscription, the Clerk’s Office previously offered access through in-person visits or by mail or email requests. The new remote access option enables these users to search deed and land record indices online at no cost. Once an index entry is found, customers can pay online for access to specific documents.
To use the system, individuals must create an account that saves search history and tracks previous purchases of copies of deeds and records. Fees apply only when users choose to view or download document images. Searches can be filtered by name, document type, date range, and other criteria.
“While we are pleased to reduce visits to the courthouse to conduct deed and land records research for our frequent customers, we are very excited to expand remote access services to our infrequent and occasional customers,” Clemens said. “Providing fingertip access to public deed and land records information and records has always been our goal and we will continue to seek opportunities to provide more tech solutions to enhance access to public information.”
The Clerk’s Office completed several weeks of internal testing before launching the new service publicly. Occasional users are encouraged to be patient as the system becomes fully operational.
