Loudoun County Animal Services announced on May 1 that it will hold a fee-waived pet adoption event from Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10 at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter located at 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg. The event will feature waived adoption fees for all available pets, including cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and small animals.

The purpose of the event is to encourage more community members to consider adopting pets by removing financial barriers. Organizers hope this initiative will help more animals find permanent homes.

Friday’s adoption hours have been extended to run from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., allowing potential adopters additional time after work. Standard hours of operation from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. will apply on Saturday and Sunday. “We often hear people say they are rushing home from work to adopt on the Friday before a big adoption event, so we are so excited to give people a chance to bring the whole family by on Friday evening and adopt a new best friend at no cost, in addition to welcoming everyone to our fee-waived, weekend event,” said Operations Manager Melissa Heard.

Adopters will receive a starter supply bag with essential items for their new pet’s transition home. Additionally, those adopting dogs or puppies during this period can access free dog training classes at LCAS.

Available pets can be viewed online at loudoun.gov/animals. The standard screening process remains in place during the promotion; most adoptions may be completed on the same day as application submission.

All adopted dogs, cats and rabbits from LCAS are spayed or neutered and come with an adopter-registered microchip for identification purposes. More information about Loudoun County Animal Services programs is available at loudoun.gov/animals.
