The Loudoun County Department of Housing and Community Development announced on Mar. 24 that it will host four free events in April to mark Fair Housing Month. The activities include two fair housing school courses, a celebration event, and a webinar, all designed to increase awareness about fair housing rights and responsibilities.

The department said the events aim to “raise awareness of fair housing by ‘Sharing Knowledge of the Benefits of Fair Housing.'” Registration is required for all sessions due to limited seating.

One course, “Fair Housing School: Understanding Reasonable Accommodations,” will cover how reasonable accommodations support equal access for individuals with disabilities. It will address topics such as assistance animals, live-in aides, disability parking spaces, and group homes. The training is open to both housing providers and the general public involved in any aspect of renting or buying property. Attendees who complete this course will receive a certificate.

A separate celebration event will feature speakers from the Virginia Fair Housing Board and Loudoun County’s Department of Housing and Community Development. They plan to discuss recent fair housing cases settled by state and federal agencies including the U.S. Department of Justice.

Another highlight is a virtual webinar titled “Fair Housing for People with Disabilities,” organized in collaboration with the Loudoun County Disability Services Board. This session targets developers, real estate professionals, landlords, nonprofit organizations, government employees, and others interested in accessibility issues within housing. Completion also qualifies participants for continuing education credits.

A second school course offers an overview of both federal and Virginia-specific fair housing laws—explaining key legal concepts as well as practical guidance on complaint processes.

Anyone needing disability accommodations or language assistance can call 703-737-8323/TTY-711 at least three business days before their chosen event. More information about these initiatives can be found at loudoun.gov/FairHousing.
