The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services announced on May 28 that it will offer a series of free behavioral health training sessions throughout June. Seats for these sessions are limited and registration is required for most programs, except for Rapid REVIVE!

The department will provide Mental Health First Aid training, which teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. The program includes both a general adult version and one specifically designed for adults who interact with youth. In-person classes will be held at the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services at 21641 Ridgetop Circle, Suite 210 in Sterling. Registration deadlines are Monday, June 15 for the in-person session and Tuesday, June 9 for the virtual session. More information about these trainings can be found at loudoun.gov/MHFirstAid.

Opioid overdose reversal education is also available through two versions of the REVIVE! program: Rapid REVIVE! and Virtual REVIVE!. Rapid REVIVE! allows individuals to complete training in six minutes by watching a short video; no registration is required. After completing the video and providing contact information, participants receive free naloxone nasal spray either by mail or arranged pickup. This format is available anytime in both English and Spanish.

Virtual REVIVE! consists of a one-hour scheduled online session that requires registration. Participants who complete this course are also eligible to receive free naloxone nasal spray by mail or pickup arrangement. Additional trainings can be scheduled upon request; details are available at loudoun.gov/revive.

Suicide prevention education will be provided through Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training sessions held virtually. QPR teaches three steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide by recognizing warning signs and referring individuals for professional help. Each presentation lasts about an hour followed by discussion opportunities; more information can be found at loudoun.gov/SuicidePreventionTraining.

Anyone requiring accommodations or language assistance should call 703-771-5155 or send an email with three business days’ notice requested.
