Loudoun County announced on Apr. 17 that it will offer a series of free behavioral health training sessions, with both virtual and in-person options available. Registration is required for most sessions due to limited seating, except for the Rapid REVIVE! program.
The trainings aim to equip residents with skills to identify and respond to mental health challenges, substance use disorders, opioid overdoses, and suicide crises. These programs are part of the county’s efforts to support community wellness and increase awareness about behavioral health resources.
Mental Health First Aid classes will be held in person at the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services office in Sterling. The course teaches participants how to recognize signs of mental illness or substance use problems and provide initial help. There are two versions: one for adults generally and another specifically for adults who interact with youth. Details about registration can be found at loudoun.gov/MHFirstAid.
The county also offers REVIVE!, Virginia’s opioid overdose education program. Rapid REVIVE! allows individuals to complete training in six minutes via a video module; after completion, participants receive free naloxone nasal spray by mail or pickup without needing to register. A longer Virtual REVIVE! session requires registration but also provides access to naloxone upon completion. Information on both programs is available at loudoun.gov/revive.
For suicide prevention, the Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) training teaches three steps anyone can use when encountering someone experiencing a suicide crisis. This virtual class lasts about an hour followed by discussion opportunities; details are posted at loudoun.gov/SuicidePreventionTraining.
Residents requiring accommodations due to disability or language needs are encouraged to contact the county three business days before their chosen session by calling 703-771-5155 or emailing the department.
