Loudoun County officials announced on April 15 that a special election will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. The Office of Elections and Voter Registration is reminding residents about important details to ensure a smooth voting process.
The upcoming special election is significant as it involves a proposed amendment to the Constitution of Virginia regarding redistricting. All registered voters in Loudoun County are eligible to participate in this vote.
Voters are advised to cast their ballots at their regular polling places between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Those unsure of their polling location can check their voter registration card or look up the information online. Curbside voting will be available for individuals with mobility issues at all polling sites. It is important to note that the Office of Elections and Voting Registration will not serve as a polling place on Election Day.
Early in-person voting concludes on Saturday, April 18, with locations and hours available online. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by April 21 or can be dropped off at designated drop boxes or any polling place until polls close at 7:00 p.m.
Voters should bring an acceptable form of identification such as a Virginia DMV-issued driver’s license when they go to vote. Those without proper ID may sign an affirmation statement and still cast a regular ballot.
Residents who missed the registration deadline can still register up to—and including—Election Day and vote using a provisional ballot. More information about same-day voter registration is available from local authorities.
For those seeking updates or results, text alerts are available by texting LCVOTES to 888777, or residents can sign up through the county’s notification system and follow official social media channels for further information. Preliminary election results will be posted online after polls close.
