Schools in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) marked the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a series of events across the district on September 11, 2025. Activities included ceremonies, educational programs, and moments of silence to honor victims, first responders, and others affected by the attacks.
Students at all grade levels participated in age-appropriate activities designed to teach about the historical impact of September 11 and highlight themes of resilience and unity. Many schools invited local veterans and first responders as guest speakers to share personal experiences and discuss values such as service, courage, and compassion.
“September 11 is a solemn reminder of the strength of our community and the values that define us as a nation,” said John Cornely, Principal of Round Hill Elementary School. “It is vital that we continue to educate our students about this day—not only to remember the lives lost, but to honor the bravery of those who risked everything to help others.”
Events throughout LCPS included flag-raising ceremonies, student messages expressing appreciation, recitations of the Pledge of Allegiance, memorial art projects created by students, and service activities aimed at giving back to the community.
The school division stated its ongoing commitment to fostering civic responsibility and remembrance among students so that the legacy of September 11 continues through education and reflection.
