Reports from the Virginia Department of Education released on August 27 indicate that Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) students have shown continued improvement in the 2025 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. The data shows that proficiency rates either increased or remained stable across all subject areas.
LCPS outperformed state averages in all five tested subjects. The district saw gains in four subject areas, with English Writing maintaining its previous performance level. Notably, students identified as most vulnerable made progress in Reading and Math, and students with disabilities improved across all five subjects.
Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence stated, “We are seeing the results of our collective focus on belonging, high-quality instruction, and targeted supports for students. These gains show what is possible when we stay committed to meeting the needs of every learner. I am grateful to our teachers, staff, and leaders for their dedication, and to our families and community partners for working alongside us. Together, we are building the momentum needed to ensure all of our students succeed.”
A review of overall pass rates over four years reveals steady increases:
– English: Reading rose from 80% in 2021-2022 to 82% in 2024-2025.
– English: Writing held at 90% for two consecutive years after an increase from 81%.
– History and Social Sciences improved from 81% to 86%.
– Mathematics went up from 74% to 82%.
– Science increased from 75% to 80%.
Chief Academic Officer Dr. Ashley Ellis commented, “We are encouraged by the continued increase in overall pass rates across the division this year and are proud of our students for their growth. We celebrate this achievement and remain steadfast in our dedication to addressing the needs of every child. LCPS will persist in our efforts to close achievement gaps and ensure every child has the resources and opportunity to reach their full potential.”
Comparisons between LCPS and statewide results show:
– In English: Reading, LCPS had an 82% pass rate compared to Virginia’s 74%, a difference of eight percentage points.
