Loudoun County Republican Committee members have raised concerns about the region’s economic environment and tax policies in a series of social media posts dated October 31, 2025. The tweets feature statements from Geary Higgins, Scott Thomas, and Junaid Khan addressing issues ranging from data center revenue to property taxes and calls for tax relief.
Geary Higgins emphasized the importance of considering the full impact of data centers on Loudoun County’s finances. On October 31, 2025, he stated, “Looking at data center costs in a vacuum misses the bigger picture. Data centers bring in significant revenue—Loudoun takes in a billion dollars a year. The revenue has to be part of the equation.”
Scott Thomas addressed concerns about rising living expenses for local residents. In his post on October 31, 2025, he said, “Skyrocketing costs and property taxes are crushing homeowners. We need an economic environment where people can actually afford to live here, with energy costs that are more realistic for Loudoun residents.”
Junaid Khan called for changes to local tax policy in light of Virginia’s budget surplus. On October 31, 2025, he wrote, “Loudoun County residents shouldn’t pay a grocery tax with Virginia’s tax surplus exceeding $1 billion. Eliminating the car tax and grocery tax will give relief to working families.”
Loudoun County is known as one of the world’s largest hubs for data centers, which contribute substantial revenue to local government budgets through taxes and fees. The county has experienced rapid growth in both population and commercial development over recent years. However, this growth has also led to increased housing prices and higher demand for public services.
The Commonwealth of Virginia reported a budget surplus exceeding $1 billion during the most recent fiscal cycle—a factor referenced by Junaid Khan as justification for reducing or eliminating certain local taxes.
