Loudoun County School Board reviews health initiatives, approves audit committee

The Loudoun County School Board convened on February 24, 2026, at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administrative Offices in Ashburn. All board members were present, with some participating virtually.

During the meeting, the board approved a consent agenda that included six proclamations. An update was provided by the Student Health Advisory Board, which addressed ongoing initiatives and recommendations to improve student health and wellness support.

A work session featured updates from the Division of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility. The Department of Student Services also presented its annual report on restraint and seclusion data for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Rock Ridge High School Chorus led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem.

A significant moment during recognitions was the signing of collective bargaining agreements for Certified Employees and Non-Certified Employees Bargaining Units by members of Loudoun County Public Schools and the Loudoun Education Collective Bargaining Team. These agreements will be effective from Fiscal Year 2027 through Fiscal Year 2029.

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence highlighted several events in his report, including School Board Appreciation Month, Potowmack Elementary’s Kindness Fair, and the United For Wellness Mental Health Conference and Resource Fair.

Community members contributed both virtually and in person during public comment sessions on various topics.

For action items, the board approved submitting Targeted Support and Improvement Multi-Year School Support Plans to the Virginia Department of Education for state approval. The board also revised Policy 2310 to establish a Standing Committee for Audit and updated Policy 3410 regarding the Office of the Auditor General to align with this new committee.

Information items reviewed included a draft policy on Advanced or Accelerated Mathematics from the Curriculum & Instruction Committee as well as a recommendation for Social Sciences and Global Studies instructional resources from the Department of Teaching and Learning.

Safety measures for elementary schools were discussed alongside an overview of security practices across all school levels.

Board members gave brief reports on their recent committee activities. No new business was introduced at this meeting.
