The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting on March 10 to discuss updates on instructional practices, approve new policies, and recognize student and school achievements. The meeting took place at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administrative Offices in Ashburn.
The board addressed several key topics relevant to students, staff, and the community. These included updates from advisory committees, presentations on teaching frameworks, policy approvals, and recognitions of both schools and individuals.
During the session, all board members were present. The Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee provided an update centered around its theme of “Building Foundations Together.” The Department of Teaching and Learning presented information about the implementation of the LCPS Instructional Framework and how it aligns with instructional practice, school improvement planning, and professional learning across the division.
Sully Elementary School was recognized for its systematic approach to professional learning that aligns with the Instructional Framework’s focus on responsiveness. This approach has led to improved student outcomes. The Tolbert Elementary School Chorus led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance and performed the National Anthem.
Among action items, Policy 5140 regarding Advanced or Accelerated Mathematics was approved unanimously. The board also approved forming a committee to suggest names for a new high school (HS-14). Additionally, certain current fourth-grade students affected by attendance zone changes will be allowed to remain at their current elementary school for fifth grade during the 2026-2027 academic year.
Other agenda items included hearing about nominees for the Virginia School Boards Association Business Honor Roll—who will be recognized publicly at a future meeting—and discussing Middleburg Community Charter School’s proposed calendar for 2026-2027. Board members concluded by sharing brief reports on recent committee meetings and activities.
