The City of Alexandria announced on May 4 that a memorial will be unveiled to honor the victims of the January 2025 Potomac River Midair Collision. The ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 1 at Rivergate City Park, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The new memorial was designed in partnership with families and loved ones of those lost in the tragedy. Their input helped shape a space intended for reflection and remembrance. According to the city, “Their voices helped shape how this space honors those who were lost.”

Located in the northeastern portion of Rivergate City Park along the Potomac River, the site aims to provide a peaceful setting where families, loved ones, and community members can gather and support each other. The city said, “This memorial creates a peaceful place for reflection, remembrance, and community connection. It offers space for families, loved ones, and the broader Alexandria community to gather, honor lives, and support one another.” The city also stated its commitment: “The City of Alexandria is honored to help create and care for this space in partnership with those most impacted.”

Alexandria’s museums and historic sites play an important role in shaping local identity by interpreting social and cultural history according to the official website.
