Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently shared his views on mental health initiatives, transportation safety, and economic challenges faced by small businesses. Beyer, who replaced Jim Moran in Congress and was born in Trieste in 1950, continues to address significant issues affecting his constituents.

On May 7, 2025, Beyer emphasized the importance of addressing mental health challenges through collaboration with fellow co-chairs “@RepSalinas, @RepDonBacon, @RepTonyGonzales”. He highlighted their collective investment in the Mental Health Caucus to tackle issues such as affordability and access.

Later that day, he expressed concern over political interference with the National Transportation Safety Board’s investigations. He described it as “Ridiculous, and incredibly bad timing”, stressing that their work is nonpartisan and crucial for ongoing investigations like the January air collision.

On May 8, Beyer participated in a hearing with small business owners from Northern Virginia discussing economic threats posed by tariffs imposed during Trump’s administration. The hearing revealed challenges such as “Higher prices. Layoffs. The threat of closure.”

Don Beyer graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a BA and currently resides in Alexandria.
