The competition pool at the Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility has reopened after a mechanical issue with its filtration system led to an unexpected shutdown earlier this month. According to facility staff, the problem required manual troubleshooting in the pump room before a warranty repair was coordinated with the original installer.

The repair process involved rebuilding part of the filter tank, expediting replacement parts, and bringing in specialists to complete the work as quickly as possible. During the closure, teams from both Minnie Howard and Chinquapin aquatics facilities collaborated to ensure that scheduled programs, swim team rentals, and the Alexandria City High School (ACHS) dive team could continue without major disruptions. Public swim hours in the training pool were also extended to offer more options for residents.

Facility officials stated, “The competition pool is now fully operational, and we appreciate the community’s patience during the repair process.”
