The City of Alexandria has announced that information boards and session recordings from the Housing 2040 Open House held on February 28 are now available on the Housing 2040 website. These materials provide context for the Draft Recommendations and Strategies for the Housing 2040 Plan, which is currently open for public comment.
Residents are encouraged to give feedback on the draft recommendations through March 22. Comments can be submitted in three ways: through the online comment portal at engage.alexandriava.gov/housing2040plan, by emailing housing2040plan@publicinput.com, or by leaving a voicemail at 855.925.2801 using Project Code: 2469.
According to city officials, “Feedback received will help inform the final draft Housing 2040 Plan which is anticipated to be presented for City Council consideration in June.”
The current update builds on Alexandria’s 2013 Housing Master Plan (HMP), which set out principles and strategies to address local housing needs through 2025. The new process aims to extend these efforts through 2040, involving collaboration with community members and local partners. Presentations and recordings from previous meetings—including those held in March, April, September, and November—are available at alexandriava.gov/HousingPlan.
The updated plan began with a Housing Needs Assessment and seeks to establish new goals around affordability while reviewing policies and programs affecting all residents and workers in Alexandria.
Alexandria incorporates racial and social equity into its policy decisions as part of its approach to fostering fair outcomes for all community members (https://www.alexandriava.gov). The city also provides services within its boundaries as an independent city operating under a council-manager form of government (https://www.alexandriava.gov).
