Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently addressed several policy issues and human rights concerns in a series of posts on his social media account.

On July 24, 2025, Beyer commented on recent policy proposals, stating: “There are policies we agree with, including support for AI-driven science, improving AI evaluations and providing testing resources, and putting our American workforce first. But the above problems poison what could’ve been a good-faith, non-partisan effort.” In a follow-up post on the same day, he added: “We will closely monitor the implementation of these policies, and will continue to advocate for the responsible development, deployment, and use of AI.

The following day, Beyer raised concerns about alleged human rights violations under former President Donald Trump’s administration. On July 25, 2025, he wrote: “The conditions described here are clearly torture, and Trump is sending people there without any due process for the ‘crime’ of having tattoos. https://t.co/YThtC6XjFv”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer holds a BA from Williams College.
