Rep. Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th District in the U.S. Congress since 2015, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on July 12, 2025. Beyer, born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, commented on climate change, mental health funding for schools, and the impact of immigration policies on the American economy.

In his first post at 13:05 UTC, Beyer highlighted environmental concerns by stating “Hotter summers, more frequent floods, longer hurricane seasons, and bigger wildfires. The climate crisis is real, and it’s deadly. Yet, Donald Trump continues to elevate climate deniers to the highest levels of government.”

Later that day at 14:25 UTC, Beyer turned his attention to education funding and mental health support for children. He wrote “At a time when depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges are skyrocketing, slashing $1 billion from school grants is unjustifiable. Every child in America deserves access to mental health care.”

At 20:50 UTC on July 12th, Beyer criticized the Trump Administration’s approach to immigration policy with “As the Trump Administration carries out its xenophobic agenda, people around the world are afraid of visiting the United States. This is terrible for the American economy, American businesses, and American jobs.”

Beyer succeeded Jim Moran as representative of Virginia’s 8th District after graduating from Williams College in 1972 with a BA.
