Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on social media addressing both domestic political concerns and international affairs.
On November 5, 2025, Beyer criticized Republican lawmakers for their support of the sitting president, stating, “Rather than address these issues, Republicans have chosen to run cover for a deeply unpopular president as he makes life worse for average Americans and engages in some of the most blatant corruption ever seen in this country. We have made clear that they will not do so”.
Later that day, Beyer commented on international developments regarding Ethiopia, emphasizing the need for further progress after a key peace agreement: “The Pretoria Agreement was a key step for peace in Ethiopia, but signatories must work to fully implement it. That means returning Internally Displaced Persons to their homes, real political talks between the parties, and accountability for crimes committed during the conflict.”
On November 6, 2025, Beyer acknowledged Nancy Pelosi’s career and legacy as she retired from Congress: “Nancy Pelosi is a major figure in American history. She’s more than a barrier breaker, she is one of our most brilliant and accomplished leaders, who repeatedly overcame steep odds to deliver results that changed people’s lives for the better. Happy retirement, Madam Speaker.”
Beyer has served as representative of Virginia’s 8th District since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and resides in Alexandria. Beyer graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
