Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted several messages on his social media account in early April 2026 addressing both religious observance and political concerns.

On April 3, Beyer acknowledged Good Friday, stating, “On Good Friday, we look inward to reflect on the ways we can help the world around us. Wishing all of you observing Good Friday a blessed day of peace and reflection.”

Later that same day, Beyer commented on federal funding for scientific research and criticized actions taken by former President Trump and Russell Vought, writing, “With the help of federal funding, American scientists were able to make discoveries that made our world healthier, safer, and better prepared for the future. But Trump and Vought’s grant freezes and mass layoffs have stalled that progress and set us back.”

On April 5, Beyer responded to developments involving the president’s public statements during Easter weekend. He posted, “Like everyone else, I had to check that this was real. Sadly it is. The president is having an Easter Sunday freak out and threatening civilian infrastructure.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. Beyer graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
