Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 8, 2026 addressing two separate topics: an incident involving ICE agents and the retirement of Rep. Steny Hoyer.

In a tweet published at 13:52 UTC, Beyer commented on a video related to an altercation between ICE agents and a civilian in Minneapolis. He stated, “The video shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the driver of the vehicle turned her wheels to avoid the ICE agents who surrounded her, screamed profanity at her, and gave her conflicting orders. They escalated the situation, they put the public in danger, they killed her” (January 8, 2026).

Later that day at 19:22 UTC, Beyer referenced remarks from the Vice President regarding the same incident. He wrote, “The Vice President says the ICE Agent who killed a 37-year-old mother of three children in a quiet Minneapolis neighborhood ‘was doing the job he was asked to do.'” (January 8, 2026).

In another post made at 15:46 UTC, Beyer addressed Rep. Steny Hoyer’s retirement from Congress with appreciation for his colleague’s service: “The House won’t be the same without Steny Hoyer. A strong, steady advocate for the National Capitol Region, he’s an institution, a lion, and a good friend. Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your service to the country @RepStenyHoyer. We’ll miss you!” (January 8, 2026).

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015 and resides in Alexandria after being born in Trieste in 1950. He graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
