Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account on January 14, 2026, addressing issues ranging from international human rights to domestic constitutional concerns.

In an early morning post, Beyer commented on events in Iran: “The people of Iran are showing remarkable courage in the face of repression and brutality. They have our support and the support of freedom-loving people all over the world as they risk their lives to free their country from violence and oppression.” (January 14, 2026)

Later that day, Beyer criticized actions by the Trump Administration regarding press freedoms and classified documents: “An unacceptable violation of the First Amendment by the Trump Administration. And before you even start talking about retaining classified documents lets remember that the most egregious breach by far in recent years was committed by Trump himself.” (January 14, 2026)

In another post referencing an editorial from a regional newspaper, Beyer shared concerns about federal law enforcement activity in Minnesota: “New editorial from the Minnesota Star Tribune: ‘Minnesota is under siege. This cannot stand.’ ‘Battalions of armed federal agents are moving through neighborhoods, transit hubs, malls and parking lots and staging near churches, mosques and schools. Strangers with guns have'” (January 14, 2026)

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in Congress in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. Beyer holds a BA from Williams College.
