Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently posted a series of tweets addressing religious freedom, Islamophobia in Congress, and criticism of ongoing military actions associated with former President Donald Trump.
On March 9, 2026, Beyer wrote: “Andy Ogles seems unable to comprehend the basic values the United States was founded on – like religious freedom under the First Amendment.
Muslim Americans are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends. They belong here, but this vile Islamophobia doesn’t belong in Congress.”
The following day, on March 10, 2026, he stated: “Neither Donald Trump nor Pete Hegseth can articulate a clear justification for this war, clear goals, or a clear timeline.
Congress should not write a blank check for an unnecessary war that remains illegal without authorization.”
On March 11, 2026, Beyer commented further: “An appalling consequence of Trump’s war of choice, compounded by his ongoing lies. Those cheering this on need to reckon with what they have wrought.”
Beyer has been vocal about issues of civil liberties and legislative oversight during his tenure in Congress. He succeeded Jim Moran in representing Virginia’s 8th District beginning in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria at age 72, Beyer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College earned in 1972.
