Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently shared several updates via social media. Born in Trieste in 1950 and a graduate of Williams College, Beyer resides in Alexandria and continues to engage with his constituents on various issues.

On June 3, 2025, Rep. Beyer announced an upcoming telephone town hall scheduled for Wednesday, June 4 at 6:00 pm. He invited constituents to participate by signing up through a provided link. “I’m hosting my next telephone town hall tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 4 at 6:00pm.”

Later that day, Beyer commented on recent legislative developments concerning Medicaid. He noted that the bill passed by the House would significantly reduce federal spending on Medicaid over the next decade while also decreasing enrollment by approximately 10.3 million people. He remarked that most changes were not related to waste or fraud within the system. “The bill passed by the House will reduce federal spending on Medicaid by at least $600 billion over a decade and reduce enrollment by about 10.3 million people… most of the changes to Medicaid have little to do with waste, fraud or abuse”

Additionally, Rep. Beyer highlighted concerns regarding economic conditions in Virginia as reported by Virginia Mercury. The report indicated consumer confidence nearing record lows due to growing economic anxiety among Virginians, particularly regarding new tariffs and national economic trends.“growing unease among Virginians, particularly surrounding the economic consequences of new tariffs and the general direction of the national economy”
