Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, addressed recent national and international events in a series of posts on his social media account.

On March 12, 2026, Beyer responded to an incident in Michigan by stating, “I was horrified to hear of the antisemitic attack on Temple Israel in Bloomfield Township, Michigan. I am very grateful to the brave security personnel and first responders who kept everyone safe. No one should have to fear attacks on their schools or houses of worship as has”.

Later that day, he commented on the death of a military officer: “The tragic loss of Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a decorated Army aviator and tireless @ODU ROTC instructor, is devastating. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the Old Dominion University community. Lt. Col. Shah’s service will not be forgotten.”

On March 13, 2026, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of military strategy in the Middle East: “Trump went guns blazing into this war without planning for predictable countermeasures like what’s happening with the Straight of Hormuz. Staggering levels of incompetence that defy any coherent definition of American interests.”

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since replacing Jim Moran in 2015 and currently resides in Alexandria. Born in Trieste in 1950 and holding a degree from Williams College earned in 1972, Beyer has been an active voice on both local and national issues throughout his tenure.
