Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, has shared several statements via social media addressing key political issues and community interactions. Born in Trieste in 1950, Beyer has been a congressional representative since 2015, succeeding Jim Moran.

On May 15, 2025, Rep. Beyer expressed concerns about a Republican proposal that would grant the Trump Administration significant authority over non-profit organizations. He stated: “Republicans want to give the Trump Administration unrestrained authority to strip tax-exempt status from any non-profit organization without due process, essentially giving them the power to shut down organizations they disagree with.” He described this potential power as “beyond dangerous.”

Later that day, Beyer reflected on a recent community engagement event in Alexandria. He noted: “Appreciate the folks who came out in Old Town yesterday to ask thoughtful questions, a nice way to end the day in Alexandria after an all-nighter markup here on Capitol Hill!”

In another post on May 15, Beyer addressed actions taken by House Democrats regarding trade policies implemented by former President Donald Trump. He mentioned: “House Democrats are joining the legal battle against Donald Trump’s clear abuses of trade authorities…” emphasizing concerns over tariffs and economic impacts.

Beyer resides in Alexandria and is an alumnus of Williams College where he graduated with a BA in 1972.
