Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing recent health care developments in rural Virginia and extending holiday greetings to constituents.
On September 22, 2025, Beyer marked the Jewish New Year with a message: “Wishing a sweet and safe new year to all celebrating Rosh Hashanah!”
The following day, Beyer turned his attention to local health care issues. In a post dated September 23, he wrote: “One shutdown is already happening: Trump and Republicans are shutting down rural health clinics in Virginia. This is thanks to Medicaid cuts and other health care cuts in their Big Ugly Bill. National press haven’t talked about this much, but it’s a big deal here in Virginia.” He continued later that day by specifying locations affected: “The three health clinics are in the Shenandoah Valley, in Buena Vista, Weyers Cave, and Churchville- rural communities in western Virginia. Some patients will be relocated to nearby providers, but some will have to travel much farther for care. Local news from western VA:”
Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer holds a BA from Williams College earned in 1972.
