Rep. Don Beyer, who has represented Virginia’s 8th District in the U.S. Congress since 2015, recently addressed several national issues on social media. Beyer, born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, used his platform to comment on security clearance processes, law enforcement practices, and rising construction costs.

On July 11, 2025, Beyer criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of security clearances. He stated: “Our national security should never be compromised by corruption and retribution, but Donald Trump abuses the security clearance process to reward his allies and punish political adversaries. The SECURE Act and Security Clearance Review Act would stop it.”

Later that day, on July 11, 2025, Beyer expressed concern about immigration enforcement tactics: “Unidentified, masked ICE agents seizing people from their homes or off the street and whisking them away in unmarked vehicles is draconian and reminiscent of police states. The No Secret Police Act is how we stop it.”

In a subsequent post on July 11, 2025, Beyer highlighted an analysis regarding housing costs: “An NBC News analysis of building materials and import data found that the total cost of building a mid-range single-family home could rise by more than $4,000 — an estimate that industry experts who reviewed the analysis called conservative.”

Beyer has served as a member of Congress since replacing Jim Moran in 2015. He graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
