Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, recently addressed several issues on his social media account, ranging from holiday greetings to criticism of Congressional decisions and former President Donald Trump.

On April 1, 2026, Beyer posted a message marking the Jewish holiday of Passover: “Chag Sameach! Wishing a happy and meaningful Passover to all observing this season of reflection and renewal.”

The following day, on April 2, 2026, Beyer commented on federal spending priorities and criticized Donald Trump’s stance on social programs and military funding. He wrote: “Trump would have you believe that spending taxpayer dollars on healthcare, food assistance, and child care is a ‘little scam’ but wants Congress to authorize $200 billion for an illegal war he has no clue how to manage. All this man cares about is bombs and ballrooms.”

Later that same day, Beyer discussed the ongoing government shutdown in relation to House Republicans’ actions regarding Department of Homeland Security funding. He stated: “House Republicans could have ended the ongoing shutdown today by bringing the bill to fund the law-abiding parts of DHS to the floor, but they didn’t. They’re choosing the shutdown.”

Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He holds a BA from Williams College (1972). He succeeded Jim Moran as representative for Virginia’s 8th district.
