Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, used his social media platform on July 19, 2025, to address economic and workforce issues linked to recent policy decisions.

In a post at 12:45 UTC, Beyer highlighted potential consumer impacts from a proposed trade measure: “Your daily coffee might soon cost more thanks to Trump’s plan to implement a 50 percent tariff on all Brazilian imports:” (July 19, 2025).

Later that day at 14:15 UTC, he criticized treatment of federal employees by the prior administration: “No one who faithfully serves the American people should be treated the way the Trump Administration has treated our public servants. Taking care of our federal workforce used to be something we all agreed was the right thing to do, and it should be again.” (July 19, 2025).

At 15:41 UTC, Beyer commented on recent employment data in Virginia: “Virginia lost over 8,000 jobs last month according to this BLS report. Virginia’s unemployment claims are a third higher than they were the same time last year. People are hurting:” (July 19, 2025).

Beyer has represented Virginia’s 8th District in Congress since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015 and resides in Alexandria. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
