Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has posted a series of statements on social media alleging misconduct by the Department of Homeland Security and its affiliated agencies.

On January 24, 2026, Beyer wrote, “The Department of Homeland Security is murdering American citizens. Congress cannot allow that to continue. Getting these people out of Minnesota and cutting off funding should be a minimum response. This is an outrage and an assault on our rights and freedom and it must stop.”

A day later, on January 25, he commented further on specific incidents involving immigration authorities: “It says so much that the ICE agents who killed Renee Good and the CBP agents who killed Alex Pretti didn’t even try to help them afterwards and even tried to stop doctors on the scene from providing medical care. This is an abomination beyond words”.

Continuing his criticism on January 26, Beyer reiterated his concerns and called for formal action: “The Department of Homeland Security is murdering American citizens. Congress cannot allow that to continue, we must act. We need a full, independent investigation into these killings. 1/”

Beyer’s remarks follow recent reports regarding actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), both components of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He specifically referenced incidents in which individuals named Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed during encounters with federal agents.

Don Beyer was born in Trieste in 1950, graduated from Williams College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and currently resides in Alexandria.
