Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on October 9, 2025, expressing support for a newly announced ceasefire agreement and calling for immediate humanitarian action.

In a post on October 9, 2025, Beyer stated, “Like many people around the world I was heartened to hear last night’s news of a long-overdue ceasefire agreement. It should be implemented without delay.”

Shortly after, Beyer emphasized the need for sustained peace and further diplomatic action, writing on October 9, 2025: “It shouldn’t have taken this long or this much suffering to end the killing and free the hostages. This agreement, unlike the February one, must proceed past an initial ceasefire to further phases to ensure a lasting peace. U.S. pressure and policy must advance that goal.”

In a subsequent message posted the same day, Beyer turned attention to humanitarian concerns: “The focus now should be on rebuilding shattered lives, homes and communities. We must ensure that aid reaches the needy, the sick and wounded receive treatment, and that orphans in Gaza are provided with care.”

Beyer has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran as representative for Virginia’s 8th district. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He holds a BA from Williams College.
