Rep. Don Beyer, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of statements on April 15, 2026, addressing recent legislative developments and economic policy concerns.

In a post at midnight, Beyer announced the passage of new aviation safety legislation in the House: “The ALERT Act just passed the House! I’m glad to see its aviation safety reforms reach the Senate and urge my colleagues to make improvements where needed. Congress must prevent a tragedy like last year’s from happening again, and that starts with passing this bill into law.” (April 15, 2026).

Later that day, Beyer commented on presidential authority over Federal Reserve leadership: “The President can’t fire the Fed Chair over mere policy disagreements, but Trump keeps trying to intimidate and remove Jerome Powell for refusing to ignore economic reality and bow to MAGA demands to cut interest rates as inflation rises.” (April 15, 2026).

By evening, Beyer addressed economic promises made by former President Donald Trump and House Republicans regarding tax refunds for working families: “Donald Trump and House Republicans promised working families tax refunds exceeding $1,000, but refunds have not met those promises. On top of that, tariffs added around $1,700 in extra costs for families last year. More failed promises and added costs!” (April 15, 2026).

Beyer has served as a representative for Virginia’s 8th District since succeeding Jim Moran in 2015. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He is an alumnus of Williams College with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1972.
