Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, used his Twitter account to express opinions on recent legislative matters and economic policies over several posts in January 2026.
On January 21, Beyer criticized Republican proposals regarding government funding, writing: “Republicans want us to vote to fund more of this. Hell no.”
In a subsequent tweet on January 22, he voiced support for Virginia’s reentry into a regional environmental initiative: “Glad to see @GovernorVA and the General Assembly moving to ensure Virginia rejoins the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. RGGI helped bring millions of dollars for clean energy and flood mitigation, and will help lower costs for Virginians. A good deal for our Commonwealth.”
Later that same day, Beyer commented on inflation and former President Donald Trump’s economic record: “Trump promised to lower prices, and broke that promise. He’s failing miserably on inflation. Prices for health care, electricity, groceries, housing, and transportation are shooting up. Trump’s stupid tariffs and other policies are making it worse.”
Beyer has served as the congressional representative for Virginia’s 8th District since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria at age 72, Beyer is an alumnus of Williams College.
