Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and legislative efforts related to law enforcement transparency. Beyer, who has served in Congress since 2015 and resides in Alexandria, posted several statements on October 15 and 16, 2025.

On October 15, Beyer addressed the government shutdown, writing, “It’s day 15 of the Republican imposed government shutdown. Democrats are here and ready to work to protect affordable health care. Republicans are on vacation.”

The following day, Beyer shared information about a legislative proposal, posting, “More on our bill here:

.

In a related tweet from the same date, Beyer commented on a recent court decision and described his legislative response: “A necessary ruling affirming that transparency and accountability are non-negotiable as the Trump administration’s draconian law enforcement tactics continue to sow fear among law-abiding people.

My bill with @EleanorNorton would ensure EVERY federal agent wears a body camera.”

Beyer’s legislative efforts are part of his broader focus as a member of Congress. He succeeded Jim Moran in representing Virginia’s 8th district beginning in 2015. Beyer was born in Trieste, Free Territory of Trieste, in 1950 and is a graduate of Williams College (1972). He has consistently advocated for transparency and accountability within federal law enforcement agencies.
