Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, addressed several national and international issues in a series of posts on his official social media account this week.

On October 13, 2025, Beyer marked Indigenous Peoples’ Day, stating, “Today, we honor the first stewards of this land. Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrates the resilience, culture, and traditions that continue to enrich our shared history and strengthen the American spirit.”

The following day, October 14, 2025, Beyer commented on former President Donald Trump’s reported actions regarding international law enforcement. He wrote, “Trump has no legal authority, ‘standing’ or otherwise, to order the killing of people in international waters for unsubstantiated accusations of non-capital crimes. Calling them ‘narcoterrorists’ does not make it right or legal to order their deaths without any due process.”

Later that same day, Beyer referenced U.S. foreign policy and domestic fiscal matters, stating, “The President of Argentina smiles as Donald Trump approves a $20 billion bailout for Argentina financed by the United States. Meanwhile the U.S. government remains shut down as Trump and Republicans refuse to negotiate measures to protect the American people from rising costs.”

Beyer has served in Congress since 2015, representing Virginia’s 8th District after succeeding Jim Moran. He was born in Trieste in 1950 and currently resides in Alexandria. He is an alumnus of Williams College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.
