Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman for Virginia’s 8th District, used social media to discuss notable political figures and transitions. Beyer, age 72 and a Williams College graduate, reflected on public service and international partnership through his posts in late April 2025.
On April 28, 2025, Beyer acknowledged the service of fellow legislator Gerry Connolly, noting, “As a tireless advocate for our federal workforce, the U.S. Postal Service, and our public transit system, @GerryConnolly has served his constituents faithfully, was a vigorous fighter for government reform, and remains one of the most effective legislators in either party.”
In a subsequent post on the same day, Beyer expressed respect for Connolly’s decision to prioritize his constituents by stepping back. He added, “I deeply respect Gerry’s decision to put his constituents first by stepping back, but I will miss him terribly in Congress. Megan and I send our love to Gerry, Smitty, and the Connolly family, with thanks for years of friendship and a great career, and our best hopes for the”
On April 29, 2025, Beyer congratulated Mark Carney, highlighting ongoing partnerships with Canada. He stated, “Congratulations to @MarkJCarney, who I’m sure will continue to lead with grit and grace. Like the vast majority of Americans, I look forward to continued partnership, alliance and friendship with @CanEmbUSA, our neighbors who remain True North, Strong and Free.”
Representing Virginia since replacing Jim Moran in 2015, Beyer’s career reflects a long-standing commitment to fostering both domestic reform and international cooperation.
