Rep. Don Beyer, who represents Virginia’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 17, 2025, addressing recent political developments and violence in Gaza.

In his first post, Beyer commented on Senate proceedings regarding the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. On July 17, he wrote, “Republicans just blocked another vote to force release of the Epstein files, this time in the Senate. The resolution to force a vote was offered by @RubenGallego; Republicans immediately moved to prevent a vote.”

Later that day, Beyer addressed violence affecting civilians in Gaza. He stated on July 17, “The killing of 20-year-old U.S. citizen Saifullah Musallet is horrifying and unacceptable. Today a Catholic church in Gaza sheltering mostly children was bombed. So many innocents have been killed, and so many of these deaths have happened at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites.”

In a third post on July 17, Beyer referenced comments from White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt regarding the Epstein case: “White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says Trump ‘would not recommend a special prosecutor in the Epstein case.'”

Don Beyer has served as the representative for Virginia’s 8th District since 2015 after succeeding Jim Moran. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
