Rep. Don Beyer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, posted a series of tweets on March 19, 2026, criticizing the current administration’s handling of an ongoing conflict and its impact on energy policy.
In one tweet from early morning, Beyer wrote: “This is a man who doesn’t know what he has unleashed and is losing his grip.” (March 19, 2026).
Later that day, Beyer addressed economic consequences related to the conflict: “The idea that this illegal war is great for our long-term economy is laughable.
The reckless destruction of oil and gas infrastructure combined with Republican policies to keep us dependent on fossil fuels means increased volatility that sends energy costs soaring.
When” (March 19, 2026).
In another post the same afternoon, Beyer criticized the administration’s preparedness and response: “This administration unleashed a war without adequately anticipating or preparing for its consequences.
Now, as energy prices surge, they’re scrambling to recover and are even considering lifting sanctions on Iranian oil to bring prices down and… hurt Iran.
A clown show.” (March 19, 2026).
Beyer’s remarks come amid rising concerns about the effects of armed conflict on global energy markets. His references to surging energy prices reflect broader debates in Congress over how foreign policy decisions can affect domestic fuel costs.
Don Beyer succeeded Jim Moran in Congress in 2015. Born in Trieste in 1950 and currently residing in Alexandria, Beyer graduated from Williams College with a BA in 1972.
