Rep. Don Beyer, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 8th district since 2015, has recently voiced concerns on social media regarding Elon Musk’s management of sensitive data and the behavior of his associates. Beyer, who succeeded Jim Moran in Congress, has been active in addressing issues related to data security and governmental integrity.

On February 7, 2025, Rep. Beyer highlighted potential privacy violations following “Musk’s Takeover Of Treasury System” with a tweet stating: “Veterans’ Data Swept Up In Musk’s Takeover Of Treasury System”.

Later that day, at 17:33 UTC, he addressed issues related to racism and journalistic integrity. He stated: “Your views are awful. Here is the truth: These are clear racist beliefs, stated repeatedly and recently. The journalist reported truthfully on bad behavior of a guy they hired to exercise power in the U.S. government.” Beyer criticized Elon Musk and his associates for purging competent individuals from positions within the government.

In another post at 20:04 UTC on the same day, Beyer expressed concern over Musk’s hiring practices. He tweeted: “Just incredible incompetence – again – from Elon Musk, who staffed his team with leakers and racists and gave them access to sensitive government data and every American’s personal information.” Beyer emphasized what he perceives as inadequate vetting processes for those given access to critical information.
