Rep. Don Beyer, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Virginia’s 8th district, has been vocal on social media regarding several pressing issues. Through a series of tweets, he has addressed concerns about executive overreach in trade policy and alleged misconduct involving Elon Musk and the Trump Administration.

On February 2, 2025, Rep. Beyer criticized former President Trump’s tariffs as an “overreach of executive power,” arguing that they misuse authorities not intended for such purposes. He emphasized that “the Constitution delegates trade authority to Congress” and called for legislative action to restore the constitutional balance of power. “Trump’s abuses of trade powers makes it clear that Congress must act to restore the constitutional balance of power.”

Later that day, Beyer announced his collaborative effort with Rep. DelBene to introduce the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act, aimed at curbing what he described as Trump’s abuse of power through tariffs. He urged Congress to pass this bill to stop destructive tariffs and restore legal balance in trade powers: “Congress can rein in Trump’s abuse of power and stop these destructive, price-raising tariffs: @RepDelBene and I introduced the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act.”

On February 3, 2025, Beyer reported an incident involving his delegation being barred from entering a USAID building due to orders allegedly given by Elon Musk and the Trump Administration. He described this action as illegal and corrupt while vowing continued efforts against it: “Our delegation seeking to do congressional oversight on reports of Elon Musk’s illegal activity at USAID was just barred from entering the building on the orders of Musk and the Trump Administration.”
